Junior Cybersecurity Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. SIEM basics (Splunk, Sentinel), EDR consoles, Wireshark, Nmap, Python and Bash fundamentals, MITRE ATT&CK, ticketing systems, structured training curriculum
About the role
You will begin your security career on the operations team of a technology company, learning the craft of defense alongside experienced engineers who are genuinely invested in your growth. The team runs a structured mentorship program featuring paired investigations, a guided training curriculum, and progressively harder assignments as you demonstrate readiness. You will triage real alerts, document real findings, and build the fundamentals every senior analyst relies on. This role matters because great security teams are built deliberately rather than hired fully formed, and this is where your foundation in detection, response, and security judgment gets poured correctly from the start.
What you will achieve
- Triage and resolve low and medium severity alerts independently within your first six months, following team runbooks with growing confidence.
- Complete the team's analyst training path, including network fundamentals, log analysis techniques, and incident handling laboratory exercises.
- Contribute tuned detection rules and runbook improvements that senior engineers review, refine, and merge into production use.
- Shadow major incident responses and produce documentation and timelines the team relies on during postmortems.
- Earn your first professional security certification within the first year, supported by company-funded study resources and exam fees.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 0 to 2 years of experience, including internships, academic labs, or home lab projects; motivated recent graduates are welcome.
- Foundational networking knowledge: TCP/IP addressing, DNS resolution, HTTP behavior, and how traffic flows through networks.
- Basic Linux command line skills and genuine comfort reading, searching, and interpreting log files.
- Authentic curiosity about how attacks work, demonstrated through CTF participation, labs, or structured self-study.
- Willingness to work shifts or on-call rotations as part of a team defending systems around the clock.
- Coachability: you ask questions early rather than guessing, take feedback well, and document what you learn for the next person.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail, because missed details in triage become missed intrusions.
Nice-to-haves
- Security+ or an equivalent entry-level certification, completed or actively in progress.
- A home lab featuring a SIEM, vulnerable virtual machines, or detection experiments you can walk through.
- Scripting basics in Python or Bash extending beyond classroom coursework.
- Participation in cybersecurity clubs, competitions, or community groups.
