IT Infrastructure Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Rack installation and build-out, structured cabling (fiber and copper), network switch basics, asset management systems, ticketing platforms, KVM systems, power distribution (PDUs and rack PDUs), labeling standards, DCIM basics
About the role
You will build and maintain IT infrastructure at a financial services company's private datacenters where auditors, regulators, and internal engineers all walk the floor and judge the operation by what they see. Your work is the physical foundation everything else depends on: racks installed level and true, cabling dressed to standard with service loops done right, assets tracked precisely through their lifecycle, and new gear staged and ready for engineers to configure. The quality of your installations directly affects cooling efficiency, serviceability, and the company's ability to pass audits. You will support audits and customer tours with installations that demonstrate professional discipline, because what auditors see on the floor shapes their confidence. Your cable plant will still look excellent years after installation.
What you will achieve
- Install racks, servers, and network gear to engineering standards with zero defects found in QA walkthroughs across all your installations.
- Deliver structured cabling (fiber and copper) meeting TIA standards, with labeling accuracy above 99 percent verified by independent audit and test records for every link.
- Maintain asset records with complete accuracy: every device tagged, located, and tracked through receiving, deployment, moves, and retirement.
- Complete infrastructure requests within SLA, coordinating proactively with network and systems engineers on dependencies instead of waiting to be asked.
- Keep cable management and airflow discipline exemplary across your areas: blanking panels installed, brush strips in place, and no airflow-blocking cable nests.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years installing and supporting IT infrastructure in datacenter or enterprise environments.
- Hands-on skill with rack building, equipment mounting, rail kits, and professional cable dressing.
- Basic networking knowledge: switch ports, VLAN concepts, fiber types and connectors, and link troubleshooting fundamentals.
- Experience with asset management databases and ticketing systems used correctly and completely.
- Physical capability for the work: lifting up to 50 pounds, ladder use, and extended time on the datacenter floor.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications valued.
Nice-to-haves
- BICSI Installer certification or equivalent structured cabling credential.
- Experience in regulated environments (financial services, healthcare) with audit and change-control requirements.
- Familiarity with DCIM tools for capacity and asset tracking.
- Knowledge of hot-aisle and cold-aisle containment best practices.
