Hardware Verification Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Design verification planning, functional test development, coverage analysis, SystemVerilog or Python testbenches, lab automation, requirements traceability, assertion-based verification, regression management
About the role
You will prove that hardware designs actually work before they reach customers, owning verification from test planning through final sign-off with real accountability. Hardware verification engineers think like adversaries: every assumption the designer made is a hypothesis you are paid to test aggressively. You will build testbenches, automate lab measurements, and chase coverage until the design has nowhere left to hide its bugs. The best verification engineers combine creativity in breaking things with the discipline to document exactly what was tested and what passing means. Your sign-off is what lets the company commit to manufacturing with confidence.
What you will achieve
- Develop verification plans with complete requirements traceability, defining precisely what gets tested, how it gets tested, and what passing means
- Build automated verification environments spanning simulation testbenches and lab automation scripts that run regression suites on every design change
- Achieve defined coverage targets for functional, code, and assertion coverage before sign-off, with clear documentation of waivers and their rationale
- Find significant bugs before tape-out or fabrication through adversarial testing, systematic corner-case analysis, and protocol violation injection
- Deliver verification reports that give leadership genuine confidence in sign-off decisions, including honest assessment of residual risk areas
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years in hardware verification, validation, or design-for-test roles with real sign-off responsibility
- Experience developing verification plans from specifications with clear coverage goals, pass criteria, and documented completion metrics
- Proficiency in a verification language or framework: SystemVerilog/UVM, cocotb, or Python-based testbench environments
- Understanding of coverage metrics: functional coverage modeling, code coverage analysis, and assertion-based verification methodology
- Lab skills for hardware validation: automated measurements, statistical data analysis, and correlation of lab results with simulation
- Adversarial mindset for systematically exploring corner cases, protocol violations, and error injection scenarios others miss
- BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with formal verification methods applied to critical design blocks with hard correctness requirements
- Familiarity with emulation or FPGA prototyping for pre-silicon software development and system-level validation
- Knowledge of safety-critical verification processes such as ISO 26262 or DO-254 and their documentation requirements
- Experience with requirements management tools like Jama or DOORS and traceability workflows
