eVTOL NVH Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. aeroacoustics, propeller noise prediction, ANOPP, PSU-WOPWOP, acoustic testing, modal analysis, vibration isolation, EPNL metrics
About the role
You will join an eVTOL aircraft company to own noise, vibration, and harshness, the discipline that determines whether the aircraft is welcome in the neighborhoods it will fly over. Community noise acceptance is a gating item for urban air mobility, and cabin vibration determines ride quality for paying passengers. Your work turns acoustic and vibration targets into design requirements the propulsion and structures teams build to, and your measurements will be quoted in public discussions of the aircraft. You will influence propulsor design, airframe configuration, and operating procedures, because noise is a system property, and your measurements will set the terms of the company's conversation with communities.
What you will achieve
- Predict the aircraft noise footprint across hover, transition, and cruise, validating predictions against ground and flight acoustic measurements within agreed tolerances.
- Drive propeller and propulsor design changes that cut community noise by measurable decibels, balancing acoustic gains against aerodynamic performance honestly.
- Characterize cabin vibration from distributed propulsors, designing isolation treatments that deliver a smooth passenger ride across the flight envelope.
- Build the noise certification prediction package, supporting the demonstration of compliance with applicable noise standards for the vehicle class.
- Establish acoustic and vibration design targets for new configurations, giving the vehicle team targets grounded in community acceptance data. Scale-model and full-scale measurements validate those targets as each configuration matures toward certification.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years in aeroacoustics, structural vibration, or NVH for aircraft, rotorcraft, or automotive products with measured results.
- Understanding of propeller and rotor noise mechanisms, including tonal and broadband sources and their directivity.
- Experience with noise prediction tools such as ANOPP, PSU-WOPWOP, or equivalent analytical methods.
- Hands-on acoustic or vibration testing experience, from microphone arrays to modal surveys to flight test measurements.
- Ability to translate NVH targets into concrete design requirements that other teams can build to and verify.
- Proficiency with data analysis and signal processing in MATLAB or Python.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with aircraft noise certification testing and EPNL computation.
- Background in active noise or vibration control systems.
- Knowledge of psychoacoustics and community noise annoyance metrics.
- Familiarity with ground effect and installation effects on measured noise.
