The job description
Tech stack. C/C++, application-layer frameworks, ARM Cortex-A/M, embedded Linux or RTOS, middleware integration, scripting (Python/Lua), customer-facing integration support
About the role
You will join a platform company whose embedded SDK powers third-party products across smart home, industrial, and retail markets. The embedded applications team builds the application layer on top of the company's platform: reference applications, middleware integrations, and the sample code that becomes customers' starting point. This role matters because customers judge the platform by what they can build in a week, and your application-layer work is the difference between a powerful SDK and a usable one.
What you will achieve
- Ship three production-quality reference applications (for example voice control, sensor dashboards, and local automation rules) that customers deploy as starting templates within days, each with a getting-started guide under ten pages
- Drive middleware integration for two major protocol stacks, cutting customer time-to-first-working-prototype from six weeks to two as measured in onboarding surveys, and publish the integration as a reusable SDK module
- Reduce integration support tickets by 40% by building self-diagnosing application templates with clear error reporting that points customers to the fix
- Build the application-layer OTA and configuration management story, giving customers safe field updates with automatic rollback and no platform-team help required
- Own the developer documentation for the application layer, with measured adoption: 70% of new customers starting from your reference code within their first month, tracked through SDK download and onboarding analytics
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2-5 years building application-layer software on embedded platforms, Linux-based or RTOS-based, that shipped to customers
- Strong C/C++ with experience structuring larger applications: state machines, event loops, and plugin or module architectures
- Familiarity with at least one embedded application framework or middleware stack and its configuration model
- Experience integrating third-party libraries into resource-constrained targets, managing memory and dependency tradeoffs
- Comfort working directly with customer engineering teams: reproducing their issues and explaining platform behavior clearly
- Scripting ability in Python or Lua for tooling, configuration management, or test automation
- Clear technical writing for samples, guides, and API documentation that developers can follow without calling support
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with UI frameworks on embedded targets such as LVGL or Qt for MCUs
- Knowledge of cloud-to-device application patterns including shadow state and command routing
- Prior experience in a customer-facing engineering role with measurable satisfaction outcomes
