About the role

You will own electrical reliability at a company manufacturing outdoor telecommunications power systems that must survive lightning strikes, desert heat, coastal salt fog, and twenty years of weather without maintenance visits. Your job is to find how products fail before customers do, using accelerated testing that compresses a decade of abuse into weeks. You will design reliability test programs, analyze failures down to their physics-level root causes, and drive design changes that push field failure rates down year after year while warranty costs follow.

What you will achieve

Build reliability test plans for each product family covering HALT, thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, and surge, discovering design margins and weak links before production release rather than after field deployment.
Drive field failure rates down by 25 percent or more per product generation through disciplined root-cause analysis and corrective actions verified by repeated testing, not by assumption.
Deliver quantitative reliability predictions and MTBF calculations with documented assumptions that product management can commit to in warranties and service contracts.
Lead failure analysis on field returns, using cross-sectioning, microscopy, and electrical characterization to identify true root causes within two weeks of receipt and distinguish design issues from manufacturing escapes.
Institutionalize derating and design-margin standards across the engineering team that prevent the most common electrical overstress failures in all new designs.

What you will bring

Must-haves

2 to 5 years in reliability engineering, failure analysis, or validation of electrical hardware with real field data.
Working knowledge of accelerated life testing methods (HALT, HASS, ALT) and the correct statistical interpretation of their results.
Familiarity with Weibull analysis, confidence intervals, reliability growth tracking, and test sample sizing.
Ability to perform or direct failure analysis: decapsulation, cross-sectioning, SEM/EDS, and dye-and-pry for solder joints.
Understanding of common electrical failure mechanisms: electromigration, solder fatigue, electrical overstress, ESD damage, and corrosion.
BS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

Experience with Telcordia SR-332 or similar reliability prediction methodologies.
Background in outdoor, automotive, or other harsh-environment electronics.
ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer credential or equivalent formal training.
Knowledge of highly accelerated testing fixture design and instrumentation.
