Datacenter Security Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Physical security systems (badge access, CCTV, intrusion detection), visitor and contractor management, security rounds and patrols, incident reporting and evidence preservation, mantrap and turnstile operations, emergency response procedures, access provisioning workflows
About the role
You will protect a datacenter campus at a financial services company where the data inside represents billions in assets and the security posture must satisfy regulators, auditors, and the board. You are the human layer of a multi-layered security program: monitoring access systems, managing visitor and contractor flow, conducting rounds, responding to alarms, and enforcing policy consistently with everyone from delivery drivers to executives. Your vigilance and your documentation are what make the security program real rather than theoretical. You will balance firm enforcement with professional customer service, because authorized visitors should feel welcomed while unauthorized ones should never get through. You will participate in security awareness for site staff, reinforcing the habits that keep the facility secure. Your presence and professionalism will give customers confidence during their audits and visits.
What you will achieve
- Maintain perfect access control enforcement: every person on site badged and authorized, every visitor escorted and logged, every tailgating attempt intercepted and addressed.
- Respond to security alarms within target times with correct assessment and appropriate action, distinguishing false alarms from genuine threats quickly and reliably.
- Deliver incident reports that are factual, complete, and timely, with evidence preserved properly to support investigations and any legal proceedings.
- Process access provisioning and deprovisioning requests within SLA, keeping access rights current as contractors and staff join, change roles, or depart.
- Conduct security rounds that actually find things: propped doors, piggybacking opportunities, equipment anomalies, and policy violations documented and corrected.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years in physical security, datacenter security operations, or law enforcement/military security roles.
- Strong observational skills, situational awareness, and the confidence to challenge unauthorized or suspicious behavior firmly and professionally.
- Understanding of physical security systems: badge access control, CCTV operation, intrusion detection, and their integration.
- Clear, factual report writing suitable for management review, investigations, and audit.
- Professional demeanor and customer-service orientation toward authorized visitors and customers.
- High school diploma or equivalent; security certifications valued.
Nice-to-haves
- PSP (Physical Security Professional) or similar security certification.
- Experience with datacenter-specific security: mantraps, biometric systems, and customer audit visits.
- Familiarity with SOC 2 physical security control requirements.
- Emergency response, first aid, or crisis management training.
