Datacenter Inventory Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Asset management databases, barcode and RFID scanning, cycle counting procedures, receiving and put-away workflows, spares inventory management, reconciliation and variance investigation, inventory reporting, ESD-safe handling
About the role
You will own inventory accuracy at a hyperscale datacenter campus where millions of dollars in servers, parts, and spares move constantly between receiving, staging, deployment, repair, and retirement. Your counts are the source of truth that finance, procurement, and capacity planning all depend on. You will run disciplined cycle counts, investigate every variance to root cause, keep receiving and put-away transactions recorded in real time, and maintain the spares inventory that keeps break/fix SLA performance possible. When your accuracy is above 99.5 percent, the whole operation runs on trustworthy data. You will also lead the quarterly wall-to-wall audits that reconcile the asset database against physical reality, catching the drift that cycle counts alone can miss.
What you will achieve
- Maintain overall inventory accuracy above 99.5 percent through disciplined cycle counting schedules covering all stock locations with the frequency their velocity demands.
- Investigate every count variance to true root cause (transaction errors, mislabeled locations, undocumented moves, process gaps) and implement fixes that prevent recurrence.
- Keep receiving, put-away, issue, and return transactions recorded in the system within the same shift they occur, eliminating the backlog that creates phantom inventory.
- Manage the critical spares inventory so technicians always find the parts they need: stock levels aligned to failure rates, lead times, and SLA commitments with no surprise stockouts.
- Deliver inventory reports that are accurate, timely, and actionable, giving procurement clear reorder signals and finance audit-ready records.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years in inventory control, warehouse operations, or materials management, ideally with IT or electronic hardware.
- Extreme attention to detail in counting, scanning, labeling, and record-keeping with a personal standard of zero tolerance for sloppy data.
- Proficiency with asset management or WMS platforms and barcode/RFID workflows used consistently and correctly.
- Strong root-cause investigation skills: you find why variances happened rather than just adjusting them away.
- Ability to organize storage areas logically and to maintain 5S discipline across stock locations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Forklift or powered equipment certification for put-away and retrieval work.
- Experience with datacenter spares programs and FRU-level inventory management.
- Familiarity with ABC analysis and inventory optimization concepts.
- Knowledge of ESD-safe handling and storage for sensitive electronic components.
