Connected Car Systems Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Telematics control units, 4G/5G and C-V2X, MQTT/HTTPS, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), eUICC/eSIM, SOME/IP, cybersecurity baselines
About the role
You will join the connected vehicle team of an automaker building the always-online car: telematics, remote services, vehicle-to-cloud data pipelines, and V2X communication. The team owns connectivity from embedded modem through cloud backend. This role matters because connectivity underpins OTA updates, predictive maintenance, usage-based features, and future autonomy, and your systems engineering determines whether the vehicle stays reliably connected across networks, borders, and a 15-year life. You will architect the telematics and connectivity platform that links vehicles to the cloud, balancing data richness against bandwidth cost and privacy obligations. Your feature designs will span remote diagnostics, stolen-vehicle tracking, and predictive maintenance, each with clear fallback behavior when connectivity drops. You will also own the data pipeline from vehicle to data lake, ensuring signals are sampled, compressed, and governed so analytics teams get clean inputs instead of raw noise. You will also design consent and data-retention policies that keep the platform compliant across global privacy regimes.
What you will achieve
- Deliver connected services (remote start, vehicle finder, OTA, data collection) with connectivity success rates above 99 percent across target markets
- Cut data costs 20 percent through smart transmission strategies: edge filtering, prioritized queues, and efficient protocols
- Own telematics system requirements, interface definitions, and end-to-end test plans from modem to cloud dashboard
- Drive V2X or C-V2X pilot deployments with validated latency and reliability for safety use cases
- Ship eSIM lifecycle management supporting multi-carrier, multi-region operation without dealer intervention
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in connected vehicle, telematics, or IoT systems engineering roles
- Strong understanding of cellular technologies (4G/5G), eSIM/eUICC provisioning, and data plan architectures
- Familiarity with telematics control units: modems, GNSS, antennas, and automotive qualification
- Working knowledge of cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT) and messaging protocols (MQTT, HTTPS)
- Understanding of vehicle network integration: gateways, SOME/IP services, and diagnostics over connectivity
- Experience with end-to-end testing: lab, drive testing, and multi-carrier validation
- Systems thinking for cybersecurity, privacy (GDPR), and functional safety implications of connectivity
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with C-V2X or DSRC protocol stacks and use cases
- Knowledge of UN R155/R156 cybersecurity and software update regulations
- Familiarity with data analytics pipelines for fleet telematics
- Exposure to satellite connectivity (NTN) for vehicles
