The job description
Tech stack. Full analog/mixed-signal EDA flows, advanced-node PDKs across foundries, system-level modeling (MATLAB/Python), technical strategy and roadmapping
About the role
You will be the company-wide technical authority for mixed-signal design at a fabless semiconductor company, setting the analog vision that every product team executes against. The Chief Architect does not own one block or one team; you own the technical correctness of the company's analog bets: which architectures, which nodes, which IP to build versus buy. This role matters because your judgment allocates years of R&D investment, and getting the big calls right is the difference between market leadership and expensive catch-up.
What you will achieve
- Set the multi-year mixed-signal technology strategy: architecture directions, process node choices, and IP build-versus-buy decisions, written as a roadmap the executive team funds and product teams execute.
- Drive company-wide first-silicon success by being the final technical reviewer on flagship tapeouts, with the authority to stop a tapeout that is not ready and the judgment to use that authority sparingly.
- Deliver competitive separation through architecture: at least one company-level analog breakthrough per product cycle (a converter FoM record, a power-management integration play, a novel calibration approach) that marketing can put on a slide.
- Reduce systemic analog risk by institutionalizing methodology across all teams: sign-off standards, failure-mode databases, model-accuracy tracking, and design-review rigor that outlive any individual designer.
- Build the next generation of technical leadership: identify and develop principal and staff engineers, run the company's analog fellowship or review board, and make technical excellence a visible, rewarded career path.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 15+ years of analog/mixed-signal design with a distinguished record: multiple product generations, first-silicon successes, and recognized technical breakthroughs.
- Company-wide scope already demonstrated: setting technical direction across teams or business units, not just within one group.
- Breadth across analog domains (converters, clocking, power, high-speed, RF) deep enough to review any block and spot the flaw the team missed.
- Track record of correct big calls: architecture bets, node selections, or IP strategies that paid off in shipping products, with honest accounting of the ones that did not.
- Executive communication: translating circuit-level tradeoffs into business risk, cost, and schedule terms that non-technical leadership can decide on.
- A history of building technical leaders: the principals and fellows in the industry who learned under you.
Nice-to-haves
- Industry recognition: ISSCC plenary or invited talks, JSSC publications, IEEE Fellow, or equivalent.
- Experience with M&A technical diligence or IP portfolio strategy.
- Familiarity with system-level trends (AI accelerators, chiplets, advanced packaging) that reshape analog requirements.
