The job description
Tech stack. Company-wide analog strategy, breakthrough architectures, IP portfolio management, technical due diligence, executive and customer engagement
About the role
You will join a semiconductor company as its chief analog IC designer, the single technical authority for analog engineering across the entire organization. Founders, executives, and key customers will look to you for judgment on the hardest technical decisions: which architectures to bet on, which risks are acceptable, and where the physics says no. This role matters because analog is the long pole in nearly every product the company ships, and your authority is what keeps those programs honest and on track.
What you will achieve
- Set the company's analog technology strategy, aligning architecture bets, process choices, and IP investments with the multi-year product vision
- Deliver breakthrough circuit architectures that create defensible product advantages competitors cannot easily copy
- Drive technical excellence across every analog team through standards, reviews, and a culture where first-silicon success is the expectation
- Resolve the company's most consequential technical disputes and escalations, from customer crises to internal architecture wars, with decisions that stick
- Build and retain world-class analog talent: you define the hiring bar, grow future principals, and make the company a destination for the best designers
- Represent the company's analog capability to the board, investors, and strategic customers, turning technical depth into business confidence
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 15+ years of analog IC design with a career portfolio of industry-leading products and architectures you personally created
- Recognized authority in the field: patents, publications, invited talks, or products the industry benchmarks against
- Proven judgment at the highest stakes: architecture bets, process selections, and risk calls that paid off in shipping products
- A record of building organizations, not just circuits: teams, methodologies, and technical cultures that outlast any single product
- Executive-level communication: you make complex tradeoffs legible to non-technical leaders without losing the technical truth
- Deep customer and market intuition for where analog performance creates business value and where it does not
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent standing demonstrated by career-defining industry contributions
Nice-to-haves
- Experience guiding a company through major technology transitions: node migrations, new market entries, or acquisitions
- Board-level or advisory experience with semiconductor startups or established vendors
- A personal network across foundries, EDA, and the analog design community that the company can draw on
