Automotive IC Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. AEC-Q100 qualification, wide temperature design (-40 to 150C), functional safety (ISO 26262), high-voltage tolerance, load-dump protection, Cadence Virtuoso
About the role
You will join an automotive semiconductor company designing analog ICs for body, powertrain, and safety systems. The team builds parts that must work for fifteen years in engine bays and chassis, through load dumps, cold cranks, and temperature extremes. This role matters because automotive customers qualify vendors, not just parts: your designs' robustness and your documentation discipline decide whether the company wins multi-year platform contracts. Vehicle electrification keeps expanding the analog content per car, and this team rides that growth. Design cycles are long, but the production lifetimes reward getting it right the first time.
What you will achieve
- Ship automotive-qualified parts that pass AEC-Q100 Grade 0 or Grade 1 on first qualification, with zero safety-related field issues
- Design circuits that hold specifications from -40C to 150C junction, with margin validated across process corners and aging models
- Deliver functional-safety features (diagnostics, fault detection, safe states) that satisfy ASIL targets with auditable design evidence
- Cut qualification risk by building robustness into the design: derating, redundancy, and protection against load dump, reverse battery, and ESD
- Own the safety and quality documentation package: FMEDA inputs, design rationale, and verification evidence that survive customer audits
- Support PPAP and production ramp, resolving yield and test issues without compromising the qualified design envelope
- Track evolving automotive standards and customer quality requirements, keeping designs ahead of qualification expectations
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2-5 years designing analog ICs with at least one automotive-qualified product shipped to production
- Deep understanding of automotive operating conditions: transients, temperature extremes, and long-lifetime reliability requirements
- Experience with AEC-Q100 qualification flow and the design practices it demands: margin, derating, and characterization depth
- Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 26262): fault modes, diagnostic coverage, and safe-state design
- Proficiency in Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre, including high-temperature and aging simulation
- Disciplined documentation habits that satisfy automotive customers' audit and traceability requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering; automotive product experience required
Nice-to-haves
- Direct experience contributing to FMEDA or safety case documentation at ASIL-B or above
- Familiarity with high-voltage automotive processes and 48V system trends
- Prior work on motor drivers, battery monitoring, or sensor interfaces for vehicles
