Automotive Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. CATIA, Siemens NX, MATLAB/Simulink, CANalyzer, dSPACE, DFMEA tools, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), vehicle test instrumentation
About the role
You will join the vehicle engineering team of an automaker developing next-generation passenger vehicles from concept through production launch. The team owns vehicle-level integration: making thousands of components from dozens of suppliers behave as one refined product. This role matters because customers judge the company on the vehicle, not the parts, and your systems thinking across mechanical, electrical, and software domains is what turns a collection of subsystems into a car people love. You will also lead design reviews that force hard decisions early, when changes cost thousands instead of millions. Your tradeoff analyses will weigh mass, cost, stiffness, and crash performance together, so no team optimizes its subsystem at the expense of the vehicle. Over a program cycle you will build the judgment to spot integration risks months before they surface in prototype builds.
What you will achieve
- Deliver vehicle-level requirements and integration plans for a full program milestone, keeping 50+ subsystem interfaces aligned through design reviews
- Cut issue resolution time by 30 percent by owning cross-functional triage: reproducing vehicle-level defects, assigning root cause, and tracking fixes to closure
- Own DFMEA and DVP&R activities for your systems, achieving test completion above 95 percent before each gateway review
- Drive weight, cost, and performance tradeoffs with data, presenting options that protect program targets without late redesigns
- Ship launch-ready vehicles with warranty-critical defects resolved before Job 1, measured by early production quality metrics
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in automotive engineering across OEM, Tier 1, or EV startup environments
- Strong understanding of vehicle systems: powertrain, chassis, body, electrical, and thermal, and how they interact
- Proficiency with CAD (CATIA, NX, or Creo) and the ability to interpret complex assemblies and drawings
- Working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack-up analysis
- Familiarity with automotive product development processes: gateways, APQP, PPAP, and launch phases
- Data-driven problem solving with 8D, 5 Whys, or similar structured methods
- Clear communication across mechanical, electrical, and software teams with competing priorities
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with EV architectures: high-voltage systems, battery packaging, and e-drive integration
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and diagnostics
- Exposure to regulatory and homologation requirements (FMVSS, ECE)
- Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent quality training
