Automotive Embedded Systems Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. C/C++, AUTOSAR Classic, MATLAB/Simulink/Embedded Coder, CAN/LIN/FlexRay/Ethernet, debuggers (Lauterbach), HIL benches, MISRA C
About the role
You will join the embedded engineering team of an automaker building the controllers that run the vehicle: body control, powertrain, chassis, and gateway ECUs. The team owns embedded software from requirements through production flash. This role matters because every vehicle function you touch must work flawlessly for 15 years across temperature extremes, voltage sags, and millions of units, and your code is what stands between a feature and a recall. You will architect ECU software with clear separation between application logic, middleware, and hardware abstraction, so platforms scale across vehicle lines without rewrites. Your bring-up work will take boards from first power-on through bootloader, drivers, and diagnostics, with hardware-in-the-loop rigs catching integration bugs before vehicle builds. You will also own cybersecurity hardening at the embedded layer, implementing secure boot and intrusion detection that satisfy UNECE R155 evidence requirements. You will also build continuous integration pipelines that run static analysis and unit tests on every commit.
What you will achieve
- Deliver production ECU software meeting timing, memory, and safety requirements with zero critical defects at SOP
- Cut integration defects by 35 percent through MIL/SIL/PIL testing discipline and automated regression suites on HIL benches
- Own driver and application software for your ECUs: CAN stack, diagnostics (UDS), bootloader, and power management
- Drive boot time, network wake-up, and quiescent current within vehicle-level budgets across all ECUs you own
- Ship software updates (OTA or dealer flash) with rollback safety and no bricking events across the fleet
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience developing embedded software for automotive ECUs
- Strong C programming skills with MISRA C compliance discipline and static analysis workflows
- Deep understanding of microcontrollers: peripherals, interrupts, memory maps, and low-level drivers
- Working knowledge of AUTOSAR Classic architecture: BSW, RTE, and application SWC structure
- Familiarity with automotive networks: CAN, LIN, FlexRay, automotive Ethernet, and diagnostic protocols (UDS, OBD)
- Experience with HIL testing, debugging with Lauterbach or similar, and oscilloscope/logic analyzer use
- Understanding of ISO 26262 software development through ASIL B or higher
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with cybersecurity engineering (SecOC, secure boot, HSM integration)
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR Adaptive or vehicle computer (HPC) platforms
- Familiarity with power electronics control or motor control algorithms
- Exposure to ASPICE assessments and process compliance
