Analog/Mixed-Signal Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Mixed-signal design, AMS verification, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre and AMS Designer, data converters, PLLs, digital calibration algorithms, Verilog-A modeling, mixed-signal debug
About the role
You will design mixed-signal systems at a semiconductor company, working at the boundary where analog precision meets digital complexity in products from communications to automotive. Mixed-signal designers architect the partitioning between analog and digital, design the critical analog blocks, implement digital calibration and correction, and verify the complete system with AMS methodologies. You will own blocks like data converters with digital calibration, PLLs with digital loop filters, or sensor interfaces with digital signal processing, delivering systems whose performance exceeds what either domain could achieve alone.
What you will achieve
- Architect mixed-signal systems including the analog-digital partitioning, calibration strategy, and interface definitions that let each domain do what it does best while minimizing power and area overhead.
- Design critical analog blocks such as data converters, PLLs, or sensor front ends with the precision the system architecture demands.
- Implement digital calibration, correction, and control logic in collaboration with digital designers, extracting performance beyond raw analog matching through intelligent algorithms.
- Verify mixed-signal systems using AMS methodologies including Verilog-A/Verilog-AMS behavioral models, mixed-signal simulation, and system-level testbenches.
- Analyze mixed-signal impairments including substrate coupling, supply noise, clock jitter, and quantization effects, budgeting and mitigating each systematically.
- Validate mixed-signal systems on silicon with coordinated analog and digital measurements, debugging the cross-domain issues involving timing, coupling, and calibration convergence that neither specialty could solve alone.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 5 to 8 years of experience in mixed-signal IC design with shipped products.
- Strong analog design fundamentals with demonstrated ability across amplifiers, converters, references, or PLLs.
- Working knowledge of digital design and RTL sufficient to collaborate effectively on calibration and control logic.
- Experience with AMS verification methodologies including behavioral modeling in Verilog-A or Verilog-AMS.
- Understanding of mixed-signal impairments: coupling, jitter, quantization, and their system-level effects.
- Proficiency with Cadence mixed-signal simulation flows and debugging techniques.
- Systems thinking: you optimize the complete signal chain rather than individual blocks in isolation.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with digitally assisted analog techniques such as background calibration or digital predistortion.
- Familiarity with UVM-based mixed-signal verification methodologies.
- Knowledge of advanced packaging effects on mixed-signal performance.
- Background in signal processing theory relevant to calibration algorithms.
