Aerospace Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. CATIA/NX, MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS/Abaqus, CFD (Fluent/Star-CCM+), GD&T, requirements management (DOORS/Jama), DFMEA
About the role
You will join the engineering team of an aerospace company developing aircraft or spacecraft from preliminary design through flight test. The team owns multidisciplinary vehicle development where aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and avionics must converge on a flying product. This role matters because aerospace tolerates no shortcuts: your analyses, designs, and test evidence are what certify the vehicle as safe to fly, and rigor here is measured in lives and missions. You will collaborate daily with aerodynamicists, structural analysts, and systems engineers, owning the interfaces where disciplines meet and resolving the conflicts that surface when mass, performance, and schedule collide. The work spans the full lifecycle, from early concept trades where one assumption can swing program cost by millions, through detailed design where every tolerance and fastener matters, to test campaigns where your predictions meet hardware reality. You will defend your analyses in gated design reviews before chief engineers and customers, backing every assumption with data and accepting the scrutiny that keeps aerospace honest. Over time you will build a personal library of validated methods that makes each subsequent program faster and more certain.
What you will achieve
- Deliver subsystem designs or analyses meeting performance, mass, and safety targets with first-pass design review approval above 90 percent
- Cut analysis turnaround by 25 percent through parametric models, automated workflows, and reusable calculation templates
- Own requirements verification for your scope: test plans, analysis reports, and traceability matrices that satisfy certification or customer review
- Drive mass reduction of 5 percent on your assigned structures or systems through optimization without compromising margins of safety
- Ship flight-ready hardware with complete documentation: drawings, stress reports, and test evidence packaged for airworthiness review
- Raise your team's design review first-pass approval rate by creating reusable analysis templates, checklists, and lessons-learned records drawn from prior programs
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in aerospace engineering across aircraft, spacecraft, or defense programs
- Strong fundamentals in aerodynamics, structures, or flight mechanics from education and applied work
- Proficiency with CAD (CATIA, NX, or Creo) and engineering analysis tools relevant to your domain
- Working knowledge of aerospace materials: aluminum alloys, titanium, composites, and their allowables
- Familiarity with certification or airworthiness processes: FAA/EASA Part 23/25 or NASA-STD-5001 as applicable
- Ability to write clear analysis reports and present findings in design reviews
- Disciplined approach to margins of safety, factors of safety, and conservative engineering judgment
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with composite design and analysis methods
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices: requirements decomposition and V&V
- Exposure to flight test planning or execution
- Private pilot license or hands-on aviation experience
- Familiarity with model-based definition and digital thread practices
